The Wilson Trail: Cloudy Hill to Pat Sin Leng

Wilson Trail | Section 9 | 10.6km | Difficult

Welcome to Section 9 of the Wilson Trail, a challenging yet incredibly rewarding 10.6-kilometer hike that takes you from the summit of Cloudy Hill to the rugged ridges of Pat Sin Leng. Known for its difficulty and stunning panoramic views, this section is a favorite among experienced hikers seeking a true adventure. With an estimated completion time of 4.5 hours, it’s almost a full-day commitment, but every step is worth it.

We consider Section 9 to be the most scenic section of the Wilson Trail. The constant up and down of the 8 Immortals and the stunning views of Tolo Harbour, Ma On Shan and, on a clear day, Shenzhen make this one of our all-time favourite hikes in Hong Kong. However, this section is not for the faint of heart—it features steep climbs and packs a lot of elevation. Section 9 offers a thrilling mix of natural beauty and physical challenge.

Why Hike Section 9 Of The Wilson Trail

Section 9 of the Wilson Trail, stretching from Cloudy Hill to Pat Sin Leng, is often regarded as one of the most challenging and rewarding hikes in Hong Kong.

This 10.6-kilometer section is not just a test of endurance but also a feast for the senses, offering some of the most spectacular panoramic views in the region. As you traverse the rugged ridges of Pat Sin Leng, often referred to as the "Ridge of Eight Immortals," you’ll be treated to breathtaking vistas of Tolo Harbour, Plover Cove Reservoir, and the surrounding mountain ranges. This makes this hike a must-do experience for hikers and adventure seekers.

What sets this section apart is its dramatic terrain and natural beauty. The trail begins with a steep ascent up Cloudy Hill, followed by a series of undulating ridges that demand both physical and mental stamina. Along the way, you’ll encounter exposed paths, rocky outcrops, and lush greenery.

The highlight, of course, is the iconic Pat Sin Leng, where the eight peaks symbolize the Eight Immortals of Chinese mythology. Standing atop these ridges, with the wind in your face and the world stretched out below, is a moment you won’t soon forget!

While Section 9 is undoubtedly challenging, it’s also deeply rewarding. Many hikers describe it as a rite of passage for serious trail enthusiasts in Hong Kong. The 8 Immortals are a part of many trail running races as well, such as the iconic North Face 100 or the 8 Immortals GreenRace.

Whether you're tackling Pat Sin Leng as part of a race or in your own time, it's an adventure you won’t want to miss.
