Why Hike Section 2 Of The Wilson Trail

Wilson Trail Section 2 is one of the most popular hikes in Hong Kong, and for good reason. This 6.6-kilometer stretch offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, accessibility, and manageable difficulty, making it a favorite among both locals and visitors.

Whether you're a seasoned hiker or a beginner looking for a rewarding outdoor experience, this section has something for everyone.

The trail takes you through the lush greenery of Tai Tam Country Park, where you’ll encounter shaded forest paths, open ridges, and panoramic views of Hong Kong Island. The highlight of this section is the breathtaking vistas of Quarry Bay and the surrounding cityscape, including Central and its skyscrapers.

Accessibility is another big plus. You can start the hike from its official starting point at Hong Kong Parkview, which is easily reachable by public transport or taxi. Alternatively, many hikers choose to do the trail in reverse, starting from Quarry Bay. Either way, there are plenty of public transport options to get you to and from the hike.

Overall, Section 2 is more shaded and less challenging than Section 1. Of the two sections of the Wilson Trail on Hong Kong Island, it's definitely the more beginner-friendly option. We recommend it for a half-day adventure! For those looking for a slightly longer hike, our recommendation is Section 2, starting from Quarry Bay, and finishing with a lunch at Repulse Bay!

Wilson Trail Section 2 to Repulse Bay

For those looking to extend their adventure beyond Wilson Trail Section 2, a recommended hiking route combines this section with a hike to Repulse Bay. This route avoids the challenging 1,000 steps of the Twins and instead ends at one of Hong Kong’s most beautiful beaches.

  1. Start at Quarry Bay: Begin your hike at the official starting finish of Wilson Trail Section 2, near Quarry Bay. Follow the trail to Wong Nai Chung Gap / Hong Kong Parkview.

  2. Connect to Repulse Bay: After completing Section 2 in reverse, take the path that leads toward Violet Hill. Once you go down from Violet Hill, make a sharp right turn following the signs to Repulse Bay. This route avoids the steep climbs of The Twins and instead takes you on a shaded forest path down to Repulse.

  3. Arrive at Repulse Bay: The hike concludes at Repulse Bay Beach, where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in the sea or grab a bite at one of the restaurants. It’s the perfect way to unwind after your hike.
